We are thrilled to announce the search for the 2023 Diabetes Image of the Year in celebration of World Diabetes Day (WDD).
Our annual competition aims to raise awareness of diabetes on a global scale while also supporting charities chosen by our winners.

We are looking for submissions that capture the genuine challenges and day-to-day realities faced by diabetes patients.
We would like to see the raw, unfiltered emotions that people with diabetes encounter. Whether it’s the burdens, day-to-day struggles, proud moments or triumphs.
We would love to encourage you to share your story about your access to care, how you manage your health each day, and moments that make you feel thankful or proud on your diabetes journey.
Why should you participate?
You have a personal story that you wish to share, one that sheds light on the challenges faced by individuals living with diabetes or supporting someone with the condition.
You would like the opportunity to contribute up to €6,000 to a diabetes charity of your choice.
We would love to see and hear your story and encourage you to submit an original piece of artwork!

RULES
- The competition is open to the general public and free to enter.
- Submissions must be in the form of graphic 2D static artwork or photographs and should be submitted electronically through the form on this website. Videos, animations, sculptures, and entries created using AI or generators will not be accepted.
- The person submitting the entry must be the sole owner and creator of the submitted photo or artwork.
- Submissions should not contain any logos, trademarks, or copyrighted materials that you do not own. If your submission includes products, medications, or diabetes devices, please obscure or cover any product and company logos.
- Participants will need to provide their artwork along with their contact details, social media handles, submission title, and a written or video story describing the inspiration behind their work, and how it relates to this year’s theme and key messages. We may use these details and video to promote the competition, World Diabetes Day and highlight artwork with compelling stories that may have not been selected as a winner.
- Entries must be submitted by October 31, 2023, by 11:59:59 pm (Pacific Day Time).

1st Runner Up: €3,000
2nd Runner Up: €1,000
You can select from recognized charities listed in our submission form or select your own, subject to our approval process.

There will be one winner and three runners-up in each of the following categories.
Winners and runners-up can be original static 2D artwork or original photography.

MEET OUR JUDGES
Our Judges are looking for engaging submissions that tell the story of diabetes, focusing on the theme of Access to Diabetes Care in real life. Showcasing the real life achievements or struggles of diabetes patients, what it’s like to live with diabetes, from the hurdles faced to the moments of resilience and gratitude. Our goal is to capture the full spectrum of experiences and shed light on the importance of access to diabetes care.

FAQ
In order to take part in the competition, you need to submit one original photograph or graphic static 2D artwork that is related to the World Diabetes Day 2023 theme: Access to Diabetes Care in real life. We are looking for submissions that capture the genuine day-to-day realities faced by diabetes patients. We would like to see the raw, unfiltered emotions whether these are obstacles that people with diabetes encounter, such as difficulties in accessing care, medication, constant monitoring or any other day-to-day struggles as well as positive aspects of their journey, such as improvements in health, and proud achievements.

The contributors of the winning entries will be able to nominate a registered diabetes charity of their choice to receive a donation.

You will be asked to propose your preferred name of the charity of your choice on submission. Please note, that the nominated charity should have been established for at least 12 months, at the time of submission. This is subject to approval.
You can submit a maximum of 1 photo or artwork per individual.
The winners will be announced on the Ascensia.com website and social media, in addition to being contacted via email on November 14, 2023.

We would like to see the raw, unfiltered emotions and obstacles that people with diabetes encounter, whether it’s the difficulties in accessing care, medication, constant monitoring or any other day-to-day struggles.
The campaign is designed to raise awareness of the importance of Access to Diabetes Care in real life, highlighting the day-to-day life and struggles of diabetes patients.
The person submitting the image will continue to own the rights to their image, but by submitting, Ascensia Diabetes Care is granted permission to use the image in accordance with those outlined in the Terms & Conditions.
Your images will be used on the Ascensia Diabetes Care website and social media platforms.
